How Multiplayer Works - Online and Local
How to play multiplayer is covered in this section of IGN's Mario Strikers: Battle League wiki guide. In the new Mario Strikers, there are a lot of options for online, wireless, and local multiplayer, and we'll show you how to get the most out of each mode.
Multiplayer can be played in a few different ways:
- Quick Battle
- Cup Battles
- Strikers Club
Quick Combat
Quick Battle is the most convenient way to enter into a Strikers match as quickly as possible. There are three different modes in Quick Battle where you can team up with, or face off against, your pals.
- Single Console
- Local Wireless
- Online Play
Single Console
This mode allows up to 8 players to play at the same time on a single console. Boom Boom, the goalkeeper, will be the only computer-controlled participant. To play this mode, you'll need eight individual controllers connected to your Switch, but the game does allow you to play with just one Joy Con. In this mode, you can't utilise split joy cons; the only alternatives are Pro Controllers and a single Joy Con.
Local Wireless
This is another option to play Mario Strikers Battle League with up to 8 people locally, but it will require substantially more hardware. On a single Switch system, up to two people can play simultaneously, and up to four consoles can connect through local wireless.
Online Play
There are three ways to connect with other Battle League players via the internet in Quick Battle's online play section.
Play Anyone
You can play against anyone you choose on the internet using Play Anyone. You can team up with a teammate on the same Switch device to combat online against random opponents as two players.
Join Friends
If you want to link up with a faraway friend in a lobby before going online to confront strangers, Join Friends is the choice for you. Everyone else is free to enter the lobby that one of their friends has created. Simply check the host's Switch profile Friend Settings to see if they are online!
Battle Friends
This eliminates strangers from the equation, allowing you to compete against your friends to see who is the greatest on the field. You can play online with a local friend who uses the same system as you, giving you an advantage over your remote acquaintances.
Cup Battles
Cup Battles are the most popular offline mode in Mario Strikers Battle League, and they can be played with up to four people. So, in any of the Cup Battle contests, you can build a whole squad to defeat the AI opposition.
Strikers Club
stats, and even allows you to collaborate to earn gold to design your stadium. Check out our tutorial on how to start an online club for additional information on this approach.
